Q
| Who will be my doctor?
A | Our Medical
Director has been with WomanCare since 1985,
working full-time, specializing in abortion
care. He is a pioneer in “pain management”
techniques. He has lectured on abortion care
and has trained other physicians to provide
abortions.
Q | How safe is an abortion?
A | Abortion is
a very safe, quick procedure that has been perfected
over the past 30 years. As long as an abortion
remains legal, it will remain safe. Complications
are very rare. In fact, our clinic has a "very
low" complication rate. Having an abortion
in no way interferes with your ability to have
children in the future.
Q | Does the surgical abortion
hurt?
A | We make every
effort to insure that you will be as comfortable
as possible during the abortion. Most patients
tell us that they have no memory of the procedure.
Q | When can I have an abortion?
A | Once your
decision has been made to terminate your pregnancy
you can schedule an appointment. The earlier the
better.
Q | Can my guest be with me
in the procedure room?
A | We feel strongly
that during surgery only medical personnel should
be present in the operating room. Remember, our
priority is the patient. Our concern is that your
friend or loved one may get nervous or anxious.
We do not want anything to divert attention away
from your medical needs.
Q | How long will I be at the clinic?
A | During the
consultation appointment, which takes about 1
to 2 hours, we provide the information and support
you need to decide whether to terminate an unplanned
pregnancy and by what method. In addition to an
educational video and fact sheets, a staff member
encourages you to ask and get answers to all of
your questions. We encourage you to print out
patient forms and bring them already completed
with you.
On the day of your abortion, you should plan to
be at the clinic between 2 and 3 hours.
Q | What about abortion counseling
services?
A | We do offer
basic counseling/education and support about your
pregnancy and birth control options, and recommend
referral information for more extensive counseling.
